Ongoing activities
- Project to provide IEC(Information, Education and Communication) materials on HIV/AIDS to over 15,000 Kayayee(female porters) in 25 communities in the Tamale Metropolis(Phase II)
- Programmme to prevent and control malaria among mothers and children under 5 years of age in the Metropolis. The strategies are retreatment and distribution of ITNs in 25,000 households and families.
Previous activities undertaken
- Sensitization programmes on the HIV/AIDS pandemic, prevention and control. Care and support for women and children affected or infected by the virus for 125,000 women and children in 25 communities in the Tamale peri-urban(Phase I).
- Microcredit programmes in 5 peri-urban districts to enhance economic status of 225 women in 5 Women Self-help Groups(WSHGs) targeting 25 rural areas by empowering access to resources.
Planned (future) activities
- Construction for 72,000 litres Hemispherical Ferro-cement tank to harvest rainwater for a population 12,000, five communities in the Tamale South West – Datoyili, Adubiyili, Bavim, Fooshego and Manguli-Kooko. This is to provide at least 25 liters of water to school children and their households to enhance school enrolment and hygiene in 12 Primary and Junior Secondary schools.
- Planned strategies to control and prevent tuberculosis in 25 villages in the Tamale Metropolitan Peri-urban. This programme is to adopt the WHO strategy of DOTS to prevent MDR and X-MDR among TB patients in the target communities.
- Vocational training to provide options to the over 500 unemployed rural women. Teaching them skills including – tailoring, tye & dye, basket weaving etc.
