About Us

SIRDA is acronym for Savannah Integrated Rural Development Aid andis a professional non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to the development of Northern Ghana. SIRDA was set up in 1996 by a group of committed individuals who saw the need for a non-sectarian organisation specializing in the rural development programmes after the Northern Region ethnic conflict. SIRDA was incorporated as a company limited by guaranteed in 2001 with the Registrar General’s Department and also with the Department of the Social Welfare to operate as a Non Governmental Organisation in 2005.

The organisation through its partners, seeks to improve the socio-economic conditions of the rural and urban poor. This aim is achieved by mobilising local, national and international resources.

LOCATION

SIRDA is currently based in Bimbilla the District capital of the Nunumba North District of the Northern Region, Ghana. The District is located between Lat. 8.5 0 N and 9.25 0 N and longitude. 0.5 0E and 0.5 0 W; The District is found in the Eastern part of the Northern region of Ghana. It shares boundaries with Yendi District to the north, East Gonja to the west and southwest and Nanumba South District to the South-east.

Mission & Vision

SIRDA’s vision is to see a World without poverty, in which everybody everywhere has equitable access to all basic social and Economic amenities to improve upon his or her standard of living in a s sustained manner.

 

Our mission is to contribute to improving the socio-economic standards of the people of Northern Ghana through community mobilisation, improving quality education especially for the girl child, food security, information on HIV/AIDS prevention and health promotion, market information linkages, advocacy and campaign for the empowerment of women and the physically challenged, access to water and sanitation services and sustainable use of natural resources.”
